The ship Apollo was built in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in 1831. She carried sugar and syrups to the United States from the West Indies before being added to the California Fleet. She sailed from New York to San Francisco in January 1849, and after arriving was turned into a warehouse connected to Howison's pier.
